India has been called a cricket crazy
nation from time to time. The millions of fans who support the Indian
cricketers treat them like gods and most of them want to see them play live in
front of them. They get this opportunity at the world class grounds that India
boasts of. Ranging from the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata to the futuristic
stadium at Rajkot, Indian cricket grounds have always been the site for exciting
and action-packed games.
Eden Gardens, Kolkata
The most iconic stadium according to a lot
of fans, Eden Gardens is regarded to be one of the best grounds to play cricket
on because of its sheer size and ambience. It is the largest cricket ground in
India and the third largest ground in the world. The ground also has seen two
out of the three hattricks taken by Indians in ODIs; the first one being Kapil
Dev’s hattrick against Sri Lanka in India and the second was taken by Kuldeep
Yadav against Australia in 2017.
Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
With a capacity of 45,000, the Wankhede
Stadium in Mumbai was built as the result of a dispute between the Cricket Club
of India and the Mumbai Cricket Association as the former owned the other
cricket ground in Mumbai, the Brabourne Stadium. The ground was host to India’s
second World Cup win in 2011 and was also the ground where Ravi Shastri hit six
sixes off Tilak Raj in a Ranji Trophy match.
Green Park, Kanpur
The only international cricket stadium
where international ODIs and Tests are played regularly, Green Park stadium has
a capacity of 33,000. The stadium is situated near the river Ganges and has
also given rise to a lot of residential projects in
Kanpur, especially near the stadium.
Along with ODIs and Tests, it has also been
the host to IPL matches. India has an impeccable record on this ground with
only two losses across all formats. The 2 BHK and 3 BHK apartments in Kanpur
that have been constructed around the ground is just one example of the development
that has been encouraged by the construction of the ground.
